December 2012 Papertrey Blog Hop

The Challenge this month is White on White.

Inspiration photo:

This is what I came up with:

I love White on White.  With the holidays, I didn't have much time to get inky but I am hoping to get some free time after the first of the year.    I really like how these butterflies turned out, I stamped them with Frost VersaMark and then hit them with clear embossing power and a heat gun!  IRL it gives them just a touch of sparkle.

Thanks for stopping by and I wish you a safe and Happy New Year!

A few of my favorite Christmas songs.

Over at all things fadra, Fadra has a post that got me thinking about Christmas songs. Off the top of my head I could only think of two that were really favorites but while looking for those songs I found many more that I love!

Here are a few of my favorites (click the singers name to take you to a YouTube video of the song):

  1. Do you hear what I hear - BingJohnny MathisAndy Williams and Carrie Underwood

  2. Oh Holy Night - Martina McBride

  3. Blue Christmas - Elvis

  4. Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer - Gene Autry
I had this record when I was young.  It was a 78 and was very
scratchy but I loved listening to it!

  5. Here Comes Santa Claus - Gene Autry

  6. Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree - Brenda Lee

  7. It's Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas - Bing

  8. Silver Bells - Johnny Mathis

  9. Holly Jolly Christmas - Burl Ives

10. Sleigh Ride - Johnny Mathis and The Boston Pops w/John Williams

11. The Christmas Song - Nat King Cole

12. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas - Frank

13. Christmas Eve/Sarajevo - TRO

14. Mary did you know - Mark Lowery, CeeLo Green

15. I heard the bells on Christmas Day - The Carpenters

16. Silent Night - Johnny Mathis

17. White Christmas - Bing and Johnny Mathis

18. The Lords Prayer - Johnny Mathis

19. How Great Thou Art - Carrie Underwood & Vince Gill

There are really more that I love, but for me I need to hear the songs above at least once every season to get me in the Christmas spirit.  I want to thank Fadra (Thanks!) for her post because I had a really good time today looking for and listening to these songs.

Merry Christmas!

Six Word Saturday 12/15/12

It is a sad day in the world when innocent children are hurt.  I know the crazies out there think that gun control is the answer but I don't believe that it is.  Banning guns only gets the guns out the responsible peoples hands.  The bad people will still get them and do bad things.  We have made many drugs illegal but they are still readily available to anyone that goes looking for them.  If someone wants to harm others they will use any means available.  i.e. Oklahoma City bombing, yesterdays stabbing of children in ChinaNorway who has some of the toughest gun laws still had mass shooting.

Crazy is crazy, no matter what laws are in effect.

Wishing and praying the best for you and yours.

O Holy Night Tag

Honestly my first thought after seeing the mirror that I used on yesterday's tag was on this layout.  After looking at this picture I will be changing out the ribbon but over all, I like how this turned out.  The mirror star really reflects the light when hanging.

Ellen Hutson's 12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist

It was love at first sight with Jennifer's tag!  I ran right out and purchased the mirror and I had everything else on hand.  One thing though, have you ever tried to take a picture of a mirror and not be in the picture?  Try it.  It is not that easy.  :)

In real life it is very shiny and pretty!

So I tried another craft I saw on Pinterest...

I have been on Pinterest for almost two years now and I still love it as much as I did in the beginning!  The problem with it is I find so many things I want to try, but I just don't have the time to try them all...

I did find the time to try this one and guess what?  It worked!  YAY!

I used different sizes and brands of glitter and they all turned out great!  They look good on the tree too!

Santa has been freed!

The Christmas decorations have been up for about a week and one morning before work I woke up to this note:

This was Santa wanting to be let out for the season.  He had already missed a week so of course I had to let him out!

He is now guarding our stairs and wishing all who pass a very Merry Christmas!

Christmas Decorating 2012

It begins the day after Thanksgiving. (This year the day after that, I was way to tired from cooking). All of the fall decor comes down and goes back in the tubs and the Christmas tubs come out.

Furniture gets moved, the cats get curious.  Let the decorating festivities begin!  First a little background, we stopped getting a real tree about ten years ago.  I love real trees.  Hubby loves real trees (former logger).  I love going to the woods, picking the perfect one out and cutting it down (watching hubby cut it down).  What I didn't love was getting home and getting it in the house, trying to set it up in the tree stand.  (Let the cussing and bad attitude begin.)  I finally said that's enough and we purchased a fake tree and everything has been smooth sailing since then.  Well at least in the Christmas tree department.  ;)

I took some pictures with just the lights on but they all turned out fuzzy. I have LOTS of lights on the tree, at least 800.  I love sitting in the dark with just the tree lights on.

Merry Christmas!

Thanksgiving Table 2012

I was going to post some Christmas pics and realized I never posted my Thanksgiving pics! This was my first time hosting more than four people for Thanksgiving and while there was only six of us I was still anxious. We cleaned the house top to bottom (well, hubby cleaned most of it((he has OCD)), I did question why my closet needed to be straightened up or the spots on my shower door removed when they come back on the very next shower! AND no one was going to see them anyway!)  I did get some new dishes out of the deal though so yay me!

I used my PTI stamps and dies to make these cute place cards.

Here is a shot of the table before the food was brought out, I think this is like the 3rd time this dinning set has been used in 15 years.  I don't have a close up of the china but there are three full sets.  Two sets from hubby's grandma, one from my grandma and one partial set from my wedding.

In the middle of all the cleaning, cooking and whatnot this guy was really helpful, NOT!  :)

I still love my Smokey though.

Thanksgiving dinner turned out wonderful!  Everything was perfectly cooked and delicious.  A good time was had by all!

Thanks for stopping by!
