It has been a long tiring week...

It all started late Tuesday night with a bought of the flu. Fun times. I didn't sleep at all. Then it started snowing, this was the only snow I saw all day, from my bed:

Then it started raining, freezing rain on top of the snow and then that froze. Can you say inches of snowcicles?

Here is a beautiful picture my friend Wendy Griffin took:

37 hours without power, while sick, not fun. All's well that ends well though, the ice and snow are gone and so is my flu! Yay! Now I am going to start looking into moving to a place with year round warmth and get away from this crappy weather. I am beginning to think four different seasons are overrated. I would like to have a few years that are all just warm. Hmm, I bet Maui is nice... I'm off to buy a lotto ticket.

I know that this year is going to be FILLED with change and being the control freak that I am I want to have a say in at least some of the changes that are going to happen! It is going to be a very bumpy year but I hope that I will come out the other side learning to be more open to change...

Ready for our Prime Rib Dinner!

It happens only once a year. I would have it more often but I am not spending $70.00 for a roast! I am a bit frugal when it comes to some things... (crafts not included) :) This makes Christmas dinner even more special I think.
We are going up to the snow in the morning for some tubing, which should be a blast! Hopefully nothing gets hurt on this old body of mine so that I can cook dinner when I get home. I am already planning on laying in bed not moving much on Monday, I have a feeling that my muscles are going to be a bit annoyed with me for bouncing down hills in the cold!

I hope your holiday is everything you want it to be and more.

2012 word for the year is...

Change. I need to work on changing many things in my life. Some basic like attitude, from not exercising to actually working out etc. Some a little more complex like, to change jobs, move, go back to school. Major decisions need to be made for health reasons so I am anticipating a year of change and I know a few others are not going to like it. They will have to embrace change in 2012 also!

This was a fun technique to do. These new stains are great. I tried to do this background with just the stamp pads and a spritz of water but it just didn't do what the stains do. So I ran to the LSS and bought some more stain. I am really starting to like the glossy accents glue also used inside the number 25.

1. Is there a special dish you prepare that you are famous for?

I made Sweet Potato Souffle! I haven't had it in a few years it was delicious!

2. Are you (did you) go Black Friday shopping ?

No, I used to go and just have fun with it but now I would rather sleep. I will shop online and see if there is anything I "need".

3. What are your strangest holiday traditions?

I don't do strange. Everything I do is perfectly normal (just ask my psychiatrist)! LOL! I can't think of anything out of the ordinary.

4. Pecan or pumpkin pie? (She actually asked "Apple or pumpkin?" I just T-giving'ed it!)

Pumpkin. Costco pumpkin to be exact. It's $6.00! I can't make it for that price and it is just one less thing I have to worry about.

5. When will you put up your Christmas tree?

We usually put it up on Friday after Thanksgiving and then take it down the day after Christmas. This year we put it up the weekend before... I love the lights and it is a fake tree so I'm okay with it.

Walking on Sunshine by Katrina & the Waves! It always makes me smile.

2. Are you a real Christmas tree kinda person or do you go with a real fake one?

I love the smell of real trees in the house but we switched to a fake one about 6 years ago and there's no going back now!

3. What are you thankful for?

Hard question! I'm pretty much thankful for everything even though I don't show it as much as I should. I try not to take anyone or anything for granted.

4. Which fashion fad from the past do you wish you could wear today?

Aren't they all fads? How about that one shoulder torn sweatshirt from Flashdance? Maybe? No... How about when they burned bras, then I wouldn't have to wear one anymore! I could really get into that one!

5. Do you wait until the "low fuel" light comes on before you fill up the gas tank?

No! I don't like mine to go less then a quarter of a tank ever and usually fill between a quarter and half full.

Dena's Birthday Bracelet

Other than a ring this is the first jewelry that I have completed! It was a kit but I think I did well for not having done it before. Three of the flowers have magnets that are holding lavender swarovski crystals. It is very pretty.

My Answers:

1. What's the last thing you spent too much money on?

If you ask my husband he would say I spend to much on EVERYTHING! Me, I am pretty cost conscience so I would have to say on gas. I am so ready for the price of gas to go down!

2. What celeb chef would you want to make you dinner?

Ina Garten everything she makes looks delish!

3. Where do you hide things when visitors pop over or do you let them see the real deal?

I don't do it any more but early in my marriage I used to through everything in the oven! Now what they see is what they get.

4. Who is your oldest living family member?

Well my Grandma just passed away two weeks ago and she would have been the oldest at 90 years old. I am lucky enough to still have a Grandpa who will be 89 next week and his wife my grandma who will be 89 in January. My great Grandpa lived until 98 and on the other side of the family my great Grandma lived until she was 97. I have longevity in my family!

5. What is your favorite DQ treat and/or Sonic drink combo (ie: cherry vanilla dr. pepper)?

I've never been to Sonic but my standard DQ treat is a Mint Oreo Blizzard. Yum!

Here are this week's questions!

1. Do you type on a keyboard the correct way or do you peck like a cute little chick?
I type the correct way. Thank goodness I took typing in High School or I would be pecking!

2. Typically how long does it take you to get ready in the morning?

I take my showers at night and usually pick out my clothes so it takes me like five mins to get ready in the morning! My son is the slowest in the house and my husband is not much faster than him!

3. Do you prefer lip gloss or lipstick?

Lipstick. I need color, I usually get the all day lipstick and try to remember chap stick or something to keep them from getting to dry. I didn't even know they still made lip gloss. I think I was in Jr. High the last time I used gloss! That was in the 80's!

4. Do you take clothes to the dry cleaner or wash them yourself even if they say dry clean only?

I have some of my older work clothes that I take just because I suck at ironing. I am lucky though because my mom has to go almost every week and she picks up what I drop off otherwise I would have things there forever. (example, they kept a shirt for me for 10 months one time!)

5. Do you prefer Wal Mart or Target.

WalMart! We have only had WalMart's for about 5 or 6 years and I went to Target. But Target was SO busy and the parking was horrible so I stopped going. I go every once in awhile but don't usually buy much...

Today good, tomorrow not so much...

Today I am hosting a Christmas card making party. This will be a lot of fun. Tomorrow, I am driving down and back (five hours each way) to go to my Grandmothers Memorial service. I am not an overly emotional person but that is altogether too much time for "thinking".

I will be celebrating her life and remembering the good times.

My Answers:

1. What movie do you love to quote?
Too many to list but some quotes I use often are: "Show me the money!", "You can't handle the truth!", "After all, tomorrow is another day!"

2. Have you ever ridden a motorcycle?
Dirt bike when I was like 13(that was yesterday right?) but nothing since. I so would though if I could! The husband and mother are not adventurous and would prefer me not to do it... But once I turn 21 30 35 40 45 they can not stop me! lol

3. What's your favorite thing to do on a rainy day?
Um...I live in Western Washington an hour south of Seattle. I do everything in the rain that I do on non rainy days (what are those?). Basically, work, chores and all the other everyday things... Now snow days are different. I love the snow! I don't drive in snow so I get to sit by the window looking and listening to the quiet with hot cocoa. :)

4. Do you prefer a bunch of small gifts, or one really big, (expensive) gift?
Umm, not really thought about it. I do know that I like to give lots of little gifts.

5. Do you ever lose track of days and show up somewhere wrong?
No. My iPhone would keep me on time if it was an issue though!

1. Do you prefer cotton, silk, or flannel sheets?

Cotton! I like the 200 to 300 thread count, they seem to stay cooler and less wrinkly. I bought some Egyptian cotton 800 tc and hated them!

2. What time zone are you in?

Pacific

3. What is your favorite part of the holiday season?

All the good food! Generally everyone has a smile on their face, (I stay away from the malls) there is a feeling of anticipation in the air. I think my favorite part of Christmas is sitting in the dark with just the lights blinking on the tree and feeling calm and peaceful.

4. What is your favorite "wintry" drink? (It doesn't have to be an "alcoholic" drink!)

I drink a hot Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha all year long!

5. In your opinion, what is the worst job in the world?

President, King, Queen, etc. Anything that puts you in charge of loads of people. I have a hard enough time pleasing the people in my house, I can't imagine if I had to please everyone in the country that would be WAY too much pressure!

1. Where do you escape to when you've had enough?

I usually take a nap.

2. What shows are you watching this fall?

House is the only thing I watch besides sports on regular TV. I do watch Real Housewives on BRAVO but they are arguing to much anymore for it to be any fun so I am not really watching that too often. Mostly I watch sports and the news.

3. What was the longest roadtrip you've ever taken and where did you go?

1978 we went from WA to OR and then to ID, MT and WY. Yellowstone was a blast! Two weeks long and lots of miles.

4. Do you plan on taking your kids to Disney World?

We went to Disneyland when my son was 8, we had a good time. I would liek to go again with just adults though. I think that would be a blast. My son is an adult now so I guess I could do both, go with my son the adult! :)

5. What is something people would surprised to know about you?

I am sentimental.

I am afraid of spiders. Even on TV. I don't like to see them or think about them, no matter the size. I have nightmares about them and have almost pushed my husband out of the way to get out of the bed running, in my sleep, from the spiders...
My craft room is my favorite room of my house. I am surrounded by all the things I love and all the possibilities that can be dreamed of.
The last time I was in Scottsdale, I couldn’t believe how fast the time went.
I got my first earrings when I was 13, my grandparents wanted me to wait until I was 16, but my parents let me do it anyway!

Neither, my used to sleep with the window cracked year round but I broke him of that habit!

I used to go all the time but my insurance stopped covering it so I don't go much if at all anymore...

I don't remember any of my costumes but my mom dressed up as a pile of leaves one year. We took a black garbage bag and stapled dry leaves to it! She looked really cool!

I like them both but I am usually only awake for sunsets!

I am a big believer in gift cards. It takes the stress off of you the giver and the gives the fun to the receiver as they can pick what THEY want and think of you while doing it. (Rather than taking something back they didn't like...)

4. What sports did you play in high school if any and do you still play them?
I was on the swim-team, I wasn't very good but it was fun. I still swim but ONLY for fun!

5. Were you in band in high school? What instrument did you play?

Ahh band, those were great times! I played the clarinet, I don't play anymore but I still have my clarinet.

Not since having a baby (22yrs ago), I hear every little noise. Before that I couldn't go to sleep without music.

I used to be an avid ad/coupon shopper. I would meal plan by what was on sale, but now the husband does all the shopping and cooking so I don't look at ads anymore at all! Except the day after Thanksgiving! :)

I have two, one is a five year old Born loafer I wear in the Fall (A LOT), similar to this one:

and a Donald J Pliner sandal that saved my life one year in Vegas that I wear in the Summer.

I really like how this card turned out. This is not a good picture but I forgot to upload it to photobucket before I left home and this I took on my phone. I think I am going to use this for a birthday card but it could be for almost any special occasion. This is using MME DP, Martha Steward glitter (it matched the glitter on the DP, YAY!) and everything else is what else???? Papertrey Ink! I tell you I should own stock in this company! They take most of my paycheck anyway! I am not complaining! Everything they sell is topnotch! I used the Fresh Snow ink, Half & Half stamp, Smokey Shadow and (I think) Raspberry Fizz paper.

I came across this great blog yesterday and she hosts a link party. So I linked up! :) You should check it out, there is some neat stuff here. Especially if you are trying to improve your photography like I am!

This is my favorite shot from this week. It is a close up of a ~~weed~~ flower on the path down to the beach. I think it is kind of pretty, they pop up here and there in the grasses and it adds color to an almost all green/tan area. I am trying to get the hang of pictures with a focal point, either in the foreground or background and the rest blurry.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

I am trying to teach myself how to use the MANY features on my camera and these are some of my pics. This is my first SHS, I hope I will be able to do more in the future so that I can see how my photography has improved!

I started playing with the filters in photobucket. This ships wheel is living next to the stairs until we can determine it's final resting place.

This was a ~~weed~~ flower on the path to the beach, I thought they were pretty.

I am a sucker for sunsets! I keep taking pictures of them but haven't had one turn out as beautiful as the real thing. I will keep trying though. :)

This is my version of abstract. I used the blueprint filter on this picture:

I like the abstract picture better.

I think the feet in this picture look small, but knowing that they are my feet and that my feet are NOT small makes me smile. I think the prints look raised which is kinda cool. Don't have any idea how or why the picture turned out that way but I like it!

I used my sewing machine!

Here is another card with the MME Lost&Found paper that I am in love with. This card is for my mom as she helped me set up my sewing machine a few weeks ago. I bought the machine the day after Thanksgiving and it sat in the box until then. I have never used a sewing machine before. After getting it set up I was too intimidated to use it. I finally said to myself JUST DO IT!. So I did and this is the result. Not perfect but I like the added detail so I will keep practicing until I get better at it.
I will NOT be sewing anything other paper anytime soon, if ever! :)

Nope, but I do say excuse me when I am alone...

2. You have to walk around with a word on your forehead. That word describes you. One word. What is it?

Unpretending - meaning free from any intent to deceive or impress others. I live my life how I want and not how others think I should.

3. What store do you refuse to shop at and why?

I don't have a store right now but I will not buy GE products. They have parts that are made in Iran and they also pay no taxes in the US, they keep their profit offshore (Europe) to keep from having to pay US taxes.

4. If you participated in arranged marriages for your child(ren), who would you choose for your child(ren)?

I haven't met anyone yet that I would choose.

5. If you could pick how and when you would die, would you?

I would pick how but not when. I would like to die peacefully in my sleep. If I knew when I would feel rushed to try and get the good things in and I think everyday has a good thing in it that I can enjoy and I learn from and would make big things more appreciated.

I would really like to say yes, but I can't. When I do exercise I like to walk.

I have to sleep with two pillows that are made from a down comforter.

My husband does the vacuuming but he does it all the time. The whole house is done at least twice a week and the kitchen and family room several times a day. Think he might have an problem? ;)

I have earrings that I wear everyday. I don't wear much, I have lots but I just don't take the time to wear them.

I have seen this on Lindsay's blog a few times and thought it would be fun to try, so here we go.

1. What is your favorite craft or type of craft and if you are a crafter how did you get into it?
My favorite craft right now is paper crafting. I love all crafts! My mom was into ceramics and tri-chem. I remember taking a tri-chem class with her, I couldn't have been more than six, in the back of ERNST hardware store. I have been crafting something or other ever since.

2. What shows have you been watching this summer?
I have been watching Real Housewives of NY and New Jersey. There is too much fighting so I think I am done with those shows. I have also been watching Weeds and Entourage. They are both great entertainment.

3. Who does the yard work at your house?
Husband! I'm no dummy and I HATE bugs!

4. Are you working on any projects inside the home or outside this week?
Not yet but I am hoping to start this soon!

5. Do you have to worry about getting ready for back to school?
Not this fall. My son is almost finished with his AA and is looking for a university for next fall. (While I save money!)

I came across this while blog surfing today! I am so going to use it for this project. Of course that means that I have to actually do something. Ever since I ~~cleaned~~ straightened up the craft room, I haven't done a thing but blog surf. I see lots of cool things while surfing Pintrest and the blogs but I just don't seem to have the oomph to do anything... Oh well, as Scarlet O'Hara said, tomorrow is another day.

If you know anything about me you know I put things off. Can you say procrastinator? I made this for a contest but missed the deadline. The focal point was to be blue, I think this fits the bill don't you?

I used the pansy and amazing stamps from Papertrey Ink's Year of Flowers stamp set, stamped the flower twice with memento tuxedo black and colored it with copics. Cardstock is Navy from Paper Zone. The designer paper is from minuet by Memory Box, I love the papers in this set! I colored clear rhinestones with a blue copic marker.

Last minute 4th decor!

After my flag was hanging up, I decided it looked a little blah, so I went shopping the day before the forth, looking for some flag bunting. I think I have been married to a ~~tightwad~~ frugal man for too long because everything seems to be more and more expensive to me! I just couldn't see spending 18.00 at the hardware store for ONE bunting! Even at Wally world it was 25.00 for three. I can usually make something cool (less expensive) so I searched the internet and found this great flag bunting download! Lovely and Gracious is the name of the blog, I just love the name. It is something I hope to always be Gracious and Loving to everyone. After printing the flag download (thirteen times!), I cut them all out and after dithering on how to hang them (on a string to swag them or just straight across the railing) this is how it turned out:

I really like it! I would have liked to have left it up longer but I had to take the bunting down early the next morning because frugal man was going to water the baskets and I didn't want them ruined. They are safe and sound in the Summer rubbermaid container waiting for next year. Maybe I will get them out again for Veterans day! Oh and for Memorial Day! Ohh and maybe Flag day! Hmm, maybe I will laminate them too!

Homemade flag for the 4th!

I knew as soon as I saw this post, I was going to have to make one for myself!

This is my version:

The directions on the blog are very easy to follow. Hubby (thank you honey) did all the cutting and gluing, I just painted it. The hardest part for me was adding the stars! I didn't have a stamp that would fit so I made a stencil to get them all the same size.

I really like how it turned out and I think it will stay up for awhile.

My new place to shop for cheese: My Cheese Shoppe in downtown Puyallup!

My friend Laurie has opened a cheese shop in downtown Puyallup! Everything you ever wanted to know about cheese Laurie can tell you! I was in there on Saturday and overheard her as she was explaining to someone about a flavor in the cheese they were tasting and that the cows that eat the grass in this seaside area gives the cheese little pops of saltiness! Or something like that. It was just really cool! We bought some blue cheese with smoked bacon. OMG it was so good! I don't even like blue cheese, but it didn't really taste like normal BC, it was more like a provolone with pops of tangyness.

First visit to the Farmers Market this year!

Boy was it crowded! One of our fist nice days this year. It hit 80 for the first time in 301 days! Everyone with a stroller, young child and dog were there! I don't know if it was my mood (moody, me?), the heat or what, but I just wasn't getting in to being there.

I did see some wonderful fruits and veggies but I didn't get any pictures because my camera decided it didn't want to take pictures anymore! The nerve! I just get stupid lines across the screen. Grrr.

Luckily, (after awhile) I realized I had my iPhone and was able to snap a couple of pictures of some beautiful hydrangeas! They are my favorite, I love all the different colors they come in. These pictures show a few that I have not seen before.

The very top one is a Pink Deep Fuchsia color. I was stunning! I just don't have a spot in my yard to put it so I had to leave it there for some other lucky person.

I think this one is my favorite! It is a very soft pink color and it looks to be a mix between a traditional and a lace cap hydrangea. I would have bought this if my husband hadn't been with me. I would have put it somewhere! Maybe even the neighbors yard! Anywhere close by just to be able to see it whenever I wanted.

Okay so you might understand my sore hand and fingers I have a picture for you. It doesn't do it justice, I should have taken a picture of all the wood blocks! I don't even want to think about how many there were!

There are about 45-50 SU containers! I had some other non SU stamps too and used about 16 sheets of cling film. Now I need to cut them all out and arrange them in the DVD holders. That can wait until at least Wednesday since tomorrow is going to be the first nice day here in Seattle in about 9 months! I need some sun and warmth!

I thought (there's the problem) that changing these stamps out would be fun and so worth it...

I'm not so sure now. My hands and fingers hurt and I am only about 60% finished! I am tenacious though and I am going to finish it even if it kills me!

Why is it when you are in the middle of one thing that you start thinking about all the other things you could be doing if you weren't busy? But when you aren't busy, you can't think of the things you wanted to do! Sigh, must be old age! :)

After Memorial Day at our beach cabin, which is very neat and tidy. I decided that I needed to do some sprucing up of my craft room. So I started with what I thought would be the most fun, my stamps! I wanted to remove all my red rubber stamps from the wood, put them on static cling foam and put them in clear DVD holders to make things a little more organized. I already had most of my clear stamps stored in clear CD cases in the type of wall system shown below:

I did a little research and found out where to buy the clear DVD cases and I ordered the cling foam from eBay. While I waited for the cling foam, I started adding all the clear stamps I had not stored yet and the red rubber stamps that came with the cling foam to the DVD holders. Then I started removing the stamps from the wood....long story longer...I have about 70 hours into this project and I am still not finished! It's not that I have too many stamps as you can NEVER have too many stamps! :) It is more because the first stamps didn't have a picture on the back so I had to stamp the image on a white label sticker and then cut it out and apply it to the DVD holder. I mean what good is a clear holder if you can't tell which stamp it holds?!
Anyway...So I read on a blog that you could use static cling film instead of the cling foam, which meant that I didn't have to remove all that foam. I started searching for the film, but instead of using the brand that was recommended on the blog, I decided I would be thrifty and use the office store brand. All was going well until today. I had several stamps all clinged (is that even a word?) up and ready to go in a case. When I was about halfway finished loading them into the case, I noticed dust on my fingers. It turns out that as I was arranging the stamps so they would all fit in neatly, the cling backing stopped clinging and started to flake off. Apparently the "cling" can only be used ONE TIME (that was not stated on the packaging!)... What the heck!! So, I have ordered the other cling film (which turns out to be the same price as the store brand…some savings, huh…) which CLEARLY states that it is re-positional. Want to know the best part? While I wait for the new “correct” cling film I get to remove the original film I glued on those stamps. Fun times...

Oh, did I tell you that with all the pulling stamps off the wood, cutting labels, etc. that my finger, thumb and hand are sore? Not to mention my backside that’s been parked on a chair all that time. Do you know a good story to explain to my co-workers why I am standing so much and not using my index finger?? A funny thing happened on my way to work...

Do you love to read? There's an ~~app~~ holiday for that! It's Read Across America Day on March 2, 2012. I take any chance to grab a drink and sit (or lay) with a good book! I mostly read romances but throw in a few biographies and political nonfiction on occasion. (Oh and BLOGS! Love blogs, but they are hard to curl up with! :) )
